An Ideal Leather Shift Boot for the S2000
After a year-long process of comparing full leather hides at distribution centers, examining thread shades and hues, experimenting with needles and industrial stitching patterns, and managing what has become a humble obsession, an interior design framework has been developed that has produced what could be described as the most intentionally-constructed leather shift boot for the S2000.
Material Selection
Leather products by GT utilize premium quality genuine leather manufactured for automotive application. With countless colors and patterns of leather to choose from, each with its own specific use case, GT has reliably identified an ideal material selection that intentionally embodies the factory interior finish of the S2000. This hand-selected leather material is soft to the touch and fine in its composition, matching the original texture, grain, and sheen of the interior of the S2000.
Additionally, the leather selection is further processed beyond its original manufactured state to achieve a proprietary consistency and finish that allows for a truly premium appearance once machine-stitched and installed. For reference, this same level of processing is often found in German and Italian original equipment (OE) manufacturing environments.
Stitching Pattern
GT’s unique stitching pattern emphasizes European influence with a unique blend of characteristics balancing stitching length, proximity, and tension to resemble that of stitching designs found only in exotic concepts.
Systematizing stitching patterns ensures consistency remains high when adding new elements to your interior allowing independent parts an opportunity to build on each other, thus forming a cohesive interior design system.
GT’s unique stitching pattern is positioned to both blend into factory interiors while remaining a highlight to the highest level of interior enthusiasts.
Form
The silhouette or shape the shift boot creates is one of the most defining characteristics of the product because it determines not only the fitment of the cover, but how it encourages the fabric to fold and thus, the form it creates. The boot is designed to rest at a taller position and features an ultra-tapered neck intended to fit snugly just under the factory locking nut while remaining full in its shape. The shift boot itself is tilted toward the dashboard purposely (blue triangle) to accentuate the front facing stitches in the driver’s view and gives the boot its offset cone-like shape.
The shift boot’s form can be adjusted to several positions and is intended to accommodate various shift knob types. It can be unfolded upwards to sit higher on extended shift knobs or folded downwards to sit lower depending on preference and application. This flexibility ensures compatibility across OEM, extended, and even countersunk shift knob options
Color Selection
A curated selection of factory-inspired thread options are offered to support a variety of both standard and modified interiors.
Red Stitch option was hand-selected to match keenly with the same red thread used by MOMO. Additional consideration was taken to ensure this color selection would also compliment the various red shades Honda used through the development of the S2000.
Yellow Stitch option is an ideal match to factory elements found in Club Racer/Type S interiors including door cards.
Blue Stitch option is an ideal match to thread used in factory Suzuka Blue interiors and also matches excellently in Laguna Blue models.
Black Stitch option supports Honda’s Graphite color concept for standard S2000 interiors and provides a modern option for the minimalist driver interested in keeping a factory interior unchanged.
